Guest Coaches for camp will include the Iowa State Football Coaching Staff
Rod Shafer takes over a Royals program that is preparing for its second competitive intercollegiate season this fall. He takes over for Jeff Schaum who led the program since inception in May 2012.
Shafer brings 34 years of college and high school coaching experience to the Royals family, 24 of which have come in the state of Florida. Overall, Shafer has compiled a 271-86 record as a head coach. Most recently Shafer served as the head football coach at Lake Wales High School, a position he held since 2006. He also served as the Highlanders head coach from 1991-2001. In 2013, Shafer led the Highlanders to 5A District 10 Championship as well as a Regional Championship and a spot in the FHSAA State Football Semifinals.
Prior to that, Shafer was instrumental in bringing NAIA football to the Sunshine State when he led Webber International University into their first season as an intercollegiate program in 2002. After competing at the club level in 2003, Shafer coached the Warriors in their first two seasons in 2004 and 2005 posting a 9-9 combined record.
During his time as a Florida high school head coach, Shafer has been named the 3A and 4A Coach of the Year three times, Florida Coach of the Year Runner-up once and was named the Florida Coach of the Year in the 1994-95 school year. During his tenure at Lake Wales High School, Shafers Highlander teams won the district championship or were the runner-up 17 times, were regional champions six times, state semifinalists four times and was the state runner-up two different times.

Chuck Bell takes over as Linebackers coach for the Royals program that is preparing for its third competitive intercollegiate season this fall. With the addition of Coach Bell to the defensive staff, Defensive Coordinator Bob Urwin will switch from coaching Linebackers to Safeties.
Bell brings NCAA college and high school coaching experience to the Royals family. Overall, Bell has spent 4 seasons coaching college football and 2 seasons in the high school ranks. Most recently Bell served as Defensive Coordinator at Greenville High School in South Carolinas largest classification.
Prior to that, Bell worked in various roles for the University of Florida football program under some of the sports most recognizable names, including Urban Meyer and Will Muschamp. In addition to working for some of the games best head coaches, Bell worked underneath current NFL Defensive Coordinators Dan Quinn (Seattle Seahawks) and Teryl Austin (Detroit Lions).
