A winner on every level of coaching, Steven McRoberts was hired on Jan. 16, 2014, to take Ole Miss volleyball to the top of the SEC and make it relevant on the national stage.
Its safe to say, the McRoberts Era is off to a good start.
Inheriting a team that had not experienced a winning season in the three years prior, McRoberts led the Rebels to their best record in seven years (22-10) and the best start (14-0) in program history. The Rebels began the year winning four tournament titles and ended the year battling for a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Ole Miss finished 12-4 at home, equaling the most home wins in school history. The Rebels also posted a school-record team hitting percentage in a season (.254).
Several individual accomplishments also highlighted McRoberts first year in Oxford. Nakeyta Clair became the first All-American since Regina Thomas earned back-to-back honors in 2010-11. Clair set the school record for kills in a season with 366 and also earned All-SEC and AVCA All-Region honors. Aubrey Edie set the single season record for assists with 1,322, and Melanie Crow set the single season record for aces with 42. Lexi Thompson had the most kills (323) in a season by a freshman.
Associate Head Coach
Ronaldo Pacheco is in his third year as a member of the Ole Miss volleyball program and was promoted to associate head coach in January of 2017.
Pacheco has helped the Rebels to three straight winning seasons for the first time in three decades. The Rebels have won 10 regular season tournament titles and set several team and individual records during the three years.
In 2016, the Rebels won three tournament titles and posted a third consecutive winning season, while sestting a record for most digs in a season and ranking second in the SEC in digs per set.
Texas native Tori Mellinger joined the Ole Miss volleyball staff as assistant coach/recruiting coordinator in January of 2017. Mellinger comes to Oxford with experience at the highest level both as a player and a coach.
“A lot of people applied for this job and Tori rose to the top from the beginning,” McRoberts said. “She brings good experience, as she has played and coached in the SEC. She understands winning. During the process I definitely picked up on Toris positive attitude and work ethic. She was ready to get started as soon as the job was offered. Tori comes to us with very good references and I am thankful that she will be a big part of our program moving forward.”,
“I want to thank Coach McRoberts for the opportunity to coach at the University of Mississippi,” Mellinger said. “I am so excited to take the next step of my career at such a great institution, and cant wait to get started in the gym and on the recruiting trail.”
