Gillom Sports Center
In the spring of 1996, ground was broken for the construction of a new multi-sport facility, and in July 1997, the complex, the Gillom Sports Center, ushered in a new era in women's athletics at Ole Miss. Read More
A winner on every level of coaching, Steven McRoberts was hired on Jan. 16, 2014, to take Ole Miss volleyball to the top of the SEC and make it relevant on the national stage.
It’s safe to say, the Rebels are well on their way. McRoberts inherited a team that in the two years prior posted a 26-34 overall record and finished at the bottom of the SEC standings. The Rebels have posted four consecutive winning seasons for the first time in three decades, won 12 regular season tournament titles, set numerous team and individual records, and players have earned All-America, All-Region and All-SEC honors.
A historic season capped McRoberts fourth year at the helm, as the Rebels captured the NIVC Championship and set numerous team and individual records. A few close five-set losses in conference play ended the Rebels NCAA Tournament chances, but they took advantage of their opportunity to play in the first NIVC Tournament since the mid 90s. Led by the senior duo of Kate Gibson and Lexi Thompson and NIVC tournament MVP Emily Stroup, the Rebels won six in a row to end the season, including five straight on their way to the NIVC title. They only dropped one set in all five postseason matches played at the newly-renovated Gillom Athletics Performance Center.
Russ Friedland joined the Ole Miss Volleyball staff in August of 2019, serving as an assistant coach where he will work primarily with the setters.
Friedland arrives in Oxford from Louisiana-Monroe, where he has spent the last 19 months at the helm for the Warhawks serving as head coach to both the indoor and beach volleyball teams. Prior to his stint in Monroe, Friedland was hailed as one of the nation’s top up-and-coming assistant coaches, providing an integral role in the turnaround of a stagnant East Carolina program.
While in Greenville, Friedland aided the Pirates to a single-season record in conference play with 13 wins in 2017, finishing with their first 20-win campaign since 2005 at 22-11.
Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator
Texas native Tori Plugge joined the Ole Miss volleyball staff as assistant coach/recruiting coordinator in January of 2017.
In her first season at Ole Miss, the Rebels captured the NIVC Championship, equaled the most wins (22) in the rally era and set numerous team and individual records. Directing the recruiting efforts, Plugge helped the Rebels sign an Under Armour All-American as well as a Prep Volleyball Senior Ace.
Prior to coming to Ole Miss, Plugge spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Arkansas State where she coached the outside hitters and handled the day-to-day operations of the office and travel as well as assisted in recruiting and scouting.
Director of Operations
Damaris Linker is in her second year as the program’s director of operations after joining Coach McRoberts’ staff in February of 2017. She serves as the liaison for the team for multiple departments, such as administration, academics, compliance, marketing, athletic communications, and facilities.
In the summer of 2018, Linker spearheaded the creation of the Ace Club, which provides additional resources and extraordinary experiences for the squad’s student-athletes. Additionally, she oversees all summer camps/clinics and is responsible for all program logistics, including tournaments, travel, budget, and equipment.
Linker served a vital role in coordination with the Rebels NIVC Championship run, as Ole Miss hosted each round of the tournament, including the title game in early December. She also serves as the official director for all of the Rebels home pre-conference tournaments.
