Christine Collins-Kiernan joined the Concordia coaching staff in the Spring in 2017 after seven years as the assistant coach at California State University, Northridge.
During her time at Northridge, Collins-Kiernan worked in all areas including recruiting, fundraising, scouting reports, team budget, academics and social media. While competing in the Big West Conference, the team produced two Big West Players of the Year, Three Big West Freshman of the Year, two NCAA tournament appearances and in 2012 they put together the best Division 1 turn around in the nation.
Prior to her role at Northridge, she served as the assistant coach at high school power house, Mater Dei. From 2006 to 2010, Collins-Kiernan ran the booster club, developed camps, managed marketing and led community service and weekly faith based growth and motivation for the program. She helped transform a sub .500 team to a team who won 20 games and made it to the CIF Semi Finals. They went on to win two CIF Titles, two State Titles and one National Championship. The program produced the second Gatorade Player of the Year in School history and eight players who went on to play at the Division I level.
Nicole Ballestero joined the Concordia University Womens Basketball Program in the summer of 2017, following the completion of her masters degree as the Graduate Assistant at the University of Idaho.
During her time at Idaho Nicole wrote the monthly booster club newsletter, aided in planning travel, and assisted in recruiting and player development. Prior to Idaho, Ballestero coached at Vanguard University for one year, where she was also a student-athlete. Nicole competed for the Lions from 2012-2014, after transferring from the University of San Diego. While at Vanguard, Nicole was an All-American during both seasons of competition. She was also named the GSAC and Womens College Basketball Association NAIA Player of the Year in 2014. Following her time at Vanguard, Ballestero played professionally in Denmark for the Aaboyhoj Greens during the 2014-2015 season.
Nicole graduated with a degree in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations from Vanguard, and earned her Masters in Movement and Leisure Science with an emphasis in Leadership from the University of Idaho in August 2017
Graduate Assistant Coach
Katelin King joined the Concordia Womens Basketball program in the summer of 2017 as a Graduate Assistant upon graduating from California State University, Northridge.
While playing at Northridge, Katelin was a part of two Big West conference tournament championships, one regular season championship, and two NCAA tournament appearances. She medically retired prior to her senior year, but joined the staff as an undergraduate assistant and was the teams Video Coordinator. She was responsible for filming and editing practice and game film, as well as tracking individual statistics.
She graduated from CSU Northridge with her Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology and is now pursuing her Masters degree at Concordia in Coaching and Athletic Administration.Katelin graduated from River City High School in 2013 and played 4 years of Varsity basketball. She was named League MVP as a Junior and made the Sacramento All-City team four times. She led her team to four playoff appearances, graduating as the most winningest player in program history.
Graduate Assistant Coach
Irene Chavez joined the Concordia University Womens Basketball Program in the summer of 2017 upon graduating from the University of California, Irvine.
While at UCI she was apart of the Womens Basketball team for all four years and received her Undergraduate degree in Anthropology with a minor in Education. She leaves the school ranked in the top 10 in Free throw percentages and Three pointers made.
Four year starter on the Varsity basketball team at Gunderson High School in San Jose, California. Where she helped clinched 3 regular season league titles and reached the semi finals of the central coast section her junior year. Two- time Blossom Valley Athletic League Santa Teresa Division MVP, garnered first team all-league honors as well as All- San Jose Mercery News third team recognition. Also, named in 2010 San Jose Mercury News Freshman of the Year.
