Men's soccer players sharpen skills in summer

Merchant receives Scholar All-America Honors
Bates College senior Nate Merchant, already the recipient of a litany of postseason honors for his senior season on the Bates men's soccer team, was recognized for his academic excellence as well on Friday, as he was named a Second Team forward on the United Soccer Coaches' NCAA Division III Men's Scholar All-America Teams.

Bates College Men's Soccer is proud to announce our 2018 Summer Identification Camp. This camp is for prospective male college players (High School grades 10-12) looking for an elite education and soccer experience. At the camp players will be offered technical sessions, tactical sessions, and a round-robin tournament where they will have the opportunity to be seen by a number of college coaches. Current Bates players identified at the camp include All-NESCAC and 2017 All-American striker Nathan Merchant, and regular starters Andrew Munoz and PJ DiBenedetto.
Recent first round draft pick Wyatt Omsberg of Minnesota United FC and Seb Blickman (Bucknell starter and 2014 Patriot League Tournament MVP). Recent camp alumni are currently playing at Southern New Hampshire, Franklin-Pierce, Fordham, Bryant, Gettysburg, Williams and Amherst among other schools.

The camp will be ran by Stewart Flaherty who is head coach of Bates College and a head coach for the SoccerMaine ODP staff. Flaherty is also an assistant coach for the Portland Phoenix PDL team - a Premier Development League for semi-professional players. Former members of the Phoenix now play professionally in Europe, Major League Soccer and the United Soccer Leagues. Players will receive instruction from Coach Flaherty as well as current players and a staff that includes a range of college Head Coaches and Bates Assistant Joshua Thornton who is the Associate head coach of the Portland Phoenix PDL team. To ensure a ratio of 12-15 players per coach, and a quality showcase tournament we will be offering spots to 65 players on a first come, first served basis.
Cost: $250.00 (inc. coaching, housing, food, ball and t-shirt)
Staff: Bates College Men's Soccer Head Coach Stewart Flaherty, as well as the Bobcats coaches, players and a number of college Head Coaches from other schools will instruct the camp.

What to bring: A camp ball and t-shirt will be provided. Players should bring cleats, shin guards, socks and shorts. Goalkeepers should bring their own gloves.

Please make it a habit to check your e-mail daily, since this will eliminate any confusion and or miscommunication.
Check-in and arrive begins at 9:00am with the first field session beginning at 10:45am. This will give players plenty of time to check into their rooms.

Bates is located about three miles from the Maine Turnpike (I-95).

Players will be provided with all you can eat lunch and dinner in the Bates Campus dining area. Players will also eat breakfast on campus on Tuesday.
