The Grant Center arena is home of the Cougars'Men's Basketball team. This facility features retractable bleachers that seat more than 2,500 Averett fans that surround the main court. David Doino

Head Coach

David Doino has served as the head coach of the Averett mens basketball program since August 2014.

In his first season as Averett, he coached the Cougars to an 18-9 overall record, a 11-3 mark in the conference and the 2014-15 USA South Conference regular season championship, the programs sixth title. He also coached three USA South All-Conference selections, including two USA South First Team performers.

In his second season, Averett went 15-11 while knocking off a Division II opponent and several solid non-conference foes from the competitive Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). He also produced one all-conference selection.

Cornelius Snow IV

Assistant Coach

Cornelius Snow IV joined the Averett mens basketball program as an assistant coach in September 2014.

In his first season with Averett, Snow helped coached the Cougars to an 18-9 overall record, a 11-3 mark in the conference and the 2014-15 USA South Conference regular season championship. In 2015-16, Snow helped guide Averett to a 15-11 overall record while knocking off a Division II opponent and several solid non-conference foes from the competitive Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). He has helped produce four USA South All-Conference selections, including two USA South First Team performers.

Snow also serves as Averetts mens and womens cross country head coach, a position he accepted in July 2015.

David Gurganus

Assistant Coach

David Gurganus joined the mens basketball program as an assistant coach in the summer of 2015.

In his first season with Averett, Gurganus helped guide Averett to a 15-11 overall record while knocking off a Division II opponent and several solid non-conference foes from the competitive Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). He also has helped produce one USA South All-Conference selection.

Prior to Averett, Gurganus served as an assistant coach for one season at N.C. Wesleyan College, where he also played basketball for four years. While at N.C. Wesleyan, he was a team captain for two seasons and was selected to the USA South All-Sportsmanship Team twice.

Sergey Samoilenko

Head Coach

Sergey Samoilenko is one of the faculty athletic mentors (FAM) for the Averett University mens basketball team. He joined the Averett faculty in 2013 as an associate professor of computer science and computer information systems and also serves as chair of the department. A native of St. Petersburg, Russia, Samoilenko is a former competitive bobsledder, and he also competed in decathalons in his home country before coming to Averett.
