Cheerleading's Skiddle named Volunteer of the Year

Angie Bowers joined Averett Athletics as the cheerleading head coach in October 2012.Bowers, who is also the office manager for the universitys admissions department, has completed her Cheer Coaching Certification Level 1 with the National Federation Association and the Virginia State Component for Cheer & Coaching.
Before coming to Averett, she worked in Finance, Real Estate, and the Danville Public School System. She has also served as president of the George Washington High School Baseball Booster club, Virginia Commissioner of Danville Little League, Treasurer of the George Washington High School Basketball Booster Club as well as president of the PTA at Bonner Middle School and Langston Focus High School. While at Averett, she has served on staff Counsel for multiple terms as well as several committees over the years.
Angie is a native of Trinity, North Carolina, and has lived in Danville for more than 30 years with her husband, Jeff. They are the parents of two adult sons, Chris and Steven and grandparents of 3 granddaughters, Brinley, Aisley and Autumn.
Karen Canody joined the Averett University cheerleading program as an assistant coach in January 2016. Canody has more than 19 years of cheerleading experience. She has worked in the Pittsylvania County and Danville City schools as a cheer coach and judge. Canody is accredited with VHSL/NFHS and UCA with stunting, motions, jumps and tumbling.
She is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Nursing and is employed by the State of Virginia Department of Health. A native of Danville, Virginia, Canody and her husband, Tony, have a daughter, Candice, and son-in-law, Josh.
